Title: Does Good support the Samsung i325 (Sprint Ace)

Update: Good Mobile Messaging client version 6.0.0.109 has added a new feature which now allows this device to roam on an international GSM network and continue synching within GMM. To use this feature please upgrade the GMM client to 6.0.0.109.

Fact: The Sprint Ace (aka Samsung i325) world phone is supported on Good Mobile Messaging version 5.0.5.29. However, the international GSM network roaming capability is not supported.

Symptom: GMM stops synchronization when traveling outside of North America and the device is connected to a GSM network.

Cause: The Samsung Ace world phone is capable of running on both CDMA and GSM networks. When the device is initially provisioned with GMM, the device sends its CDMA network Serial Number (ESN) to the Good Data Center. GMM then uses this Serial Number for synchronization. However, when user travels outside of North America and the device attaches to an international GSM network, the device will report a different GSM network Serial Number (IMSI). The Good Data Center can not recognize the new Serial Number, therefore blocks synchronization to the device.

Remedy: Currently there is only a reprovision workaround. If the user would like to use GMM on an international GSM network, the user account will need to be deleted and re-added to the Good Messaging Server. Additionally the GMM Client will need to be removed from the device and reinstalled via OTA Setup while roaming on the GSM network. Consequently, when the user returns to the device’s native network (US Sprint), the device will need to be reprovisioned again with the same steps above to resume synchronization.
Note: For this workaround to function properly there must also be an available Direct Secure Transport Service (STS) License within the Good Messaging deployment. Otherwise after provisioning the device on the GSM network, Good’s Service Plan Management policy may block message flow to the device. For more information regarding STS Licenses, please visit the Good Licensing Portal.

Additional Info: For a future release enhancement, we plan to implement dual mode support in our NOC architecture to allow world phones to continue sync seamlessly while roaming between network technologies.
