Title: How to move the GoodLink Server to new hardware
Fact: Following is information when moving the GoodLink Server to new hardware.
Note: In cases were
the previous GLS host is inaccessible (e.g. hardware failure) please refer to
KB
article 17532: How to move the GoodLink Server configuration to new hardware when
the existing hardware is inaccessible.
Step I - Gather Information
From
the registry of the existing GoodLink server, write down the server name, serial
number, license key, mailbox name, cache directory, windows logged on user name
(domain/username), and Exchange server name where the GoodLink mailbox resides.
(Note: The goodlink server name is usually, not necessarily the same as the computer
name.)
The parameters are located in registry of the GoodLink Server under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SOFTWARE/Good Technology/GoodLink Install Parameters/
New Item!
Also pull the "LoginKey" Information from the Goodlink Install Parameters This includes creating a "LoginKey" (String value) registry entry under [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SOFTWARE/ GoodTechnology/GoodLink Install Parameters]. You will have to create the "GoodTechnology"/"GoodLink Install Parameters" hierarchy before adding the LoginKey.
Special Note:
Tech support shouldn't have to clear the key for an Exchange GLS. For Exchange GLS, the login key is stored in the registry and the GoodAdmin account. If the login key is not found in the registry then we will check the GoodAdmin account as backup
Step II - Uninstall GoodLink Server
A. Uninstall GoodLink server (select preserve user settings when prompted and do not uninstall the goodlink management console)
B.
Copy the cache directory from the current GoodLink Server to a temporary location
on the new host machine.
The cache is normally located in C:\Program Files\Good
Technology\GoodLink Server\cache\
Step III - Manually Delete the Server Object in the GoodLink Management Console
If the new computer name is the same as the old computer name this section is not necessary and you can proceed to Step IV.
A. Run Regedit from the current GoodLink Server
B. Add the string value HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SOFTWARE/Good Technology/Goodlink Management Console/show server delete with a value data = 1
C. Launch the GoodLink Management Console from the GoodLink Server
D. In the GoodLink Management Console, click the servers folder, then right click on the server object and choose delete
E. Exit the GoodLink Management Console
GoodLink Server Version 4.5 Downgrade Note: If downgrading from Goodlink Server version 4.5 down to 4.0.3 or earlier, then a GoodLink Server login key will need to be cleared from the GoodLink operations center. The customer should contact Good Technology Technical Support and request to remove the 4.5 server Login Key information on the operations center. Then wait 10 minutes to clear the database cache. The downgrade is possible only after this step has been completed.
Step IV - Install GoodLink on the New Hardware
A. From the new server, logon as the domain/username recorded in step I. Run setup and install GoodLink Server.
B. When prompted, enter the same Goodlink Server name, serial number, license key and exchange mailbox as the previous GoodLink server!
Warning! You must enter the old/source GoodLink server name on this installation screen. If you do not enter the source/old GoodLink Server name on this step, then when the GoodLink Server service starts, the server will attempt to bind to the copied-over cache with a name other than the previous GoodLink Server and so the copied-over cache will become corrupt. This will force users to become disconnected and subsequently require the handheld(s) to be reprovisoned.
C.
When prompted for the cache directory location, keep the default cache directory
location, the installation wizard will create the new default cache directory.
Continue the GoodLink Server installation wizard. On the Finish screen in the
wizard, uncheck the two service startup checkboxes. At this point, it is important
to not start the GoodLink services automatically
because the cache is not yet in-place. As an added safety measure, go into Services
and be sure to set both Goodlink Server and Goodlink Watchdog (if using pre-version
4.0) services to manual.
D. Move the backed-up cache over the empty cache
directory that the installation wizard created. The empty cache will be overwritten
by the backup cache.
E. For a 2.0.x installation, install the GoodLink Management Console and the GoodLink Client handheld software. For 3.0.x installation, install the GoodLink Management Server and GoodLink Client handheld software, do not to start Goodlink Management Server service.
F. Launch the Goodlink Management console and verify that all provision users are listed in the users folder.
Note: If the new computer name is different than the old computer name, you will also need to delete the dbfiles.lck from the ...\cache\<servername>\ directory. This file contains the name of the server so if it is not deleted, the GoodLink Server service will not start up and log the following error in the NT Event Application log:
Event ID 7024. The GoodLink Server service terminated with service-specific error 0.
G. For 2.0.x
installation, start the Goodlink Server and Goodlink Watchdog Services. For 3.0.x
installation, start the Goodlink Server, GoodLink Watchdog and Goodlink Management
Server Services.
H. Verify synchronization of user devices.
I. Allow 40 minutes to verify server is functioning properly.
J. Finally, go into Services and set Goodlink Server, Goodlink Watchdog (if using pre-version 4.0) and Goodlink Management Server services to automatic.
